In addition to painting, I also work in the museum industry as a freelance designer, preparator, framer, and fabricator. Preparing an exhibit in an art museum can sometimes be thrilling. Being able to walk around a Jackson Pollock face up on the floor just as he painted it, or removing an unlined Van Gogh from it’s frame, holding it’s raw canvas edge and steel tacks that he himself hammered in place is a true privilage. On one level I want the paintings in these paintings to be simply “objects in a room”, on another I want to emphasize their existence as genuine portals into another dimension. I also want to celebrate the modern museum worker, without whom these amazing things would remain just paint, canvas, and wood.
