Landscape painting is the one constant thread through my life of trying to figure out what this painting thing is all about. In many ways the reason I paint is to see deeply, around the corners, behind the curtain, and straight through the thoughts that get in the way of experience and alter memory. Light goes in my eyes and out my hand, through the brush and onto the canvas. I will always paint landscapes, both plein air and studio inventions, whether of my long time home in Western Massachusetts (see the “413” page), or the places I spent my childhood on Cape Cod and in Maine, where I am now spending more and more time every year, or even traveling.
