There are few places in nature where perfectly straight lines exist, except maybe the horizon, and even that is slightly rounded. Symmetry and right angles occasionally show up, but only by chance. As a species it seems we have a need to impose order on the chaos of nature, and I admit it very satisfying to figure out the complex geometry of light falling on, or in a building. There is logic to that chaos of nature as well, even if it’s not apparent. Whether it’s water running over a beach or light falling through trees in the woods, figuring out that puzzle is also immensely satisfying, but it almost never includes the regularity of parallel lines receding in space.
